Weekend Open Thread   6 comments

I will be gone for most of today, so I am going ahead and posting the weekend open thread, where you folks can discuss any topic you like. I will post my daily portfolio results either tonight or tomorrow.

I don’t have a top 3 list today, but I do offer for your consideration, a great irony: The famed martial arts actor Bruce Lee died at the age of 32 in 1973, only 6 days before the release of his last film, Enter the Dragon; Lee’s son, Brandon Lee, died at the age of 28 in 1993, 20 years after his father’s death, during the filming of Brandon’s last movie, The Crow. Although Bruce Lee is a cultural icon, I still think Brandon Lee was the better actor of the two, and proved that in The Crow and Showdown in Little Tokyo.

Have a great weekend folks!

PORTFOLIO UPDATE: Sorry for the delay, but my portfolio dropped 1.22% on Friday.

  1. What the heck are your government and the fed doing?
    http://cnsnews.com/news/article/fed-has-bought-more-us-gov-t-debt-year-treasury-has-issued
The Fed bought last year 3.9 billion dollars of debt more than your government issued?
Now I understand why the bonds stay this freakingly low, the Fed is buying ALL!
    This is really crazy …

ps: Maybe I should check the numbers for Europe one of these days …

    • plas,
It’s called “printing money”. I’m not being sarcastic either, because that is the literal result of the Fed’s actions. What amazes me is the rest of the world lets us do it. The last country to print money like this was Zimbabwe, and we know how that turned out…

      • I know you were printing money … but i didn’t realised you were printing THAT much money …
And indeed, I also wonder why the rest lets you do it; probably because you consume a lot of their exported goods – chosing the best of two evils.

      • Basically, you folks in other countries are paying us to buy your stuff. And we thank you for it!

  2. Marshall, how are you faring in the storm? Looks pretty nice if you’re a cross country skier. :)
