Weekend Open Thread   Leave a comment

I’m not selling or buying today, so let’s run with the weekend open thread, where you can discuss any topic you like.

I read an interview with actress Kathleen Turner not long ago, and discovered she was suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. in her honor, I decided to name my three favorite Kathleen Turner films:

1. Body Heat (1981): Turner’s first film was also her steamy best. One of the few films that would rate with Cool Hand Luke as “sweatiest films of all time”. However, Body Heat was also my favorite of the film noire genre. William Hurt made the perfect gullible foil for Turner’s “woman in distress” role (or is she?).

2. The War of the Roses (1989): This may have been Turner’s third appearance in a movie with both Michael Douglas and Danny DeVito, after Romancing the Stone and Jewel of the Nile, but this was their best. Arguably the best dark comedy of all-time, this movie shows what happens when a bad divorce gets worse.

3. Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988): Who else could do the voice of sexy Jessica Rabbit? She may be a cartoon character, but when you add Turner’s voice to the role…admit it guys, she was hot! Or, as Jessica said, in her best Mae West impersonation: “I’m not bad. I’m just drawn that way.”

Time to call it a weekend. Enjoy it folks, and I will see you back here on Monday!
