Weekend Open Thread   3 comments

Once again, we reach the end of another week (if you were expecting a Monday, I’m sorry to disappoint you). Time for the weekend open thread, where the soapbox is yours!

In continuing with my “summer of one-hit wonders” theme, I offer you The Calling’s Wherever You Will Go:

Wherever You Will Go reached number 5 on the U.S. charts, and number 1 on the U.S. Adult Pop charts back in 2001.

The basic problem with The Calling was their songs: Most of them were romantic drivel. After Wherever You Will Go, there wasn’t anything to get excited about. They went on a hiatus from 2005 to 2013, and haven’t managed to do anything exciting, especially since they lost their lead singer, Alex Band.

As for Wherever You Will Go, it has been covered a few times, but the best version was by Charlene Soraia, whose version was used for a Twinings commercial in the U.K. I can understand why an ad company would use her version, because it is absolutely beautiful, taking the rock ballad and turning it into a sweet love song, for which Soraia’s voice is perfectly suited:

That’s it for me. Enjoy your weekend folks!

  1. Ed, what do you think about Largo Resources (LGO.V) as a speculative play? A few years ago I did some research on them and their project attracted me. Now I took a look at them again. Their project Maracas seems to kick-off. And they have a buyer for their Vanadium.
Their stockprice seems to be rising, which is always nice too.

    • plas,
I like it, with a caveat: It is still in the highly speculative stage. They have no revenue yet. I would suggest any positions be small, and go in with the expectation to lose your entire investment. If you can afford to lose your investment, then it’s worth the risk.
