And the laughter stopped…   3 comments

“Laugh, and the world laughs with you;
Weep, and you weep alone.
For the sad old earth must borrow its mirth
But has trouble enough of its own”
–from The Way of the World, by Ella Wheeler Wilcox

The news of Robin Williams’ death reminded me of the poem above. I suspect he did plenty of both laughing and weeping. Laughter was the gift he gave to the rest of us, even as depression was what tormented him when he was alone.

R.I.P. Robin Williams. Thank you for allowing us to borrow your mirth.

  1. Robin Williams is far and away my favorite actor of all time. I’ve never seen a person with so much energy and insight. My entire family gets together to watch his comedy specials and I’ve always cherished his films. I just wish he found enough happiness and fulfillment in the joy he brought to others to be satisfied in this life.

  2. Heyyy Ed…

    Thank you for honoring Robin Williams this morning and the poem is quite fitting for this star! He was my all time favorite comedian starting from the beginning with Nanu Nanu, Death of a Sperm (from an old 33 rpm vinyl), Good Morning Vietnammm, and sooo many hilarious lines from Mrs. Doubtfire and other movies, plus a gazillion interviews. Sad day today as if yesterday was any better…can’t even imagine the family having to go through this.
