Ed’s Daily Review for October 4th: Coyote ugly   11 comments

“Coyote ugly” is a good way to describe this market. Short positions don’t go up enough to make them worth investing, while long positions just drop. It makes you want to chew your arm off to get out of this liquidity trap…

AT: -0.11 to $13.76 (-0.79%)–bought at $12.62

SIVR: -0.12 to $21.93 (-0.54%)–bought at $22.00

OVERALL: -0.60%

It is nice to see Ucore (UURAF) over the break even mark, but that is small solace after as much red as I saw today.

  1. The market must gnaw off its arm to avoid waking the sleeping beast that it took home while drunk.

Is this how the market is coyote ugly? Haha

You beat the market today and could have destroyed it if you bought more spxu at the open. Your shorts are never going to save you if your portfolio has a high net long percentage, which I believe yours does.

  2. Ed,

Just curious, how is your portfolio down just 0.6%? Are you overweight on SPXU and UURAF?

  3. Long sso; 3 month perspective.

  4. Ed,

    Caveat Venditor?

  5. Ed,

What are your thoughts on AGU? I think that it is one of the better Ag stocks going forward especially with their purchase of AWB.

  6. Moraski,

I am not wildly bullish, just think that the risk is good until the end of the year for a higher market. I don’t take big gambles, just like to add a little when I think the risk is low.
SSO is a small percentage of the portfolio and I have cash to add on a pullback. But, if things change I’ll be out.

Nothing outrageous. I am not advising, and have been wrong before.

  7. Sam,
AGU doesn’t have a whole lot of upside in the next few months. Best case scenario is maybe 10%.

Don’t get too stuck on the Ag sector. The market has already generously priced most of the decent Ag stocks.

  8. hilog,
It’s funny you mention that. I was looking at an American metal recycler not too long ago. They were doing rare earths in addition to other metals, so it wasn’t a pure rare earth play, but they were interesting nonetheless.
